- Tank: 40 gal minimum for juveniles, larger as they grow
- Substrate: Moist soil mix with bark and moss
- Humidity: 70–90%, daily misting and large water area
- Diet: Snails, canned snails, insects, Mazuri Croc Chow
- Light: Strong UVB (12-hour cycle) and basking heat
- Behavior: Semi-aquatic, shy when young, strong swimmers, will need large deep swimming area when adults.
- Enrichment: Large water feature, branches, hides
